Peter Zezel (born April 22, 1965 in Toronto , Ontario ; † May 26, 2009 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played 1004 games for the Philadelphia Flyers , St. Louis Blues , Washington during his active career between 1984 and 1999 Capitals , Toronto Maple Leafs , Dallas Stars , New jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League on the position of the center has denied.
Career
Peter Zezel began his career as a hockey player with the Toronto Marlboros , for whom he played in the Ontario Hockey League from 1982 to 1984 . During this time he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 1983 in the second round as a total of 41st player by the Philadelphia Flyers . For the Flyers he played until November 29, 1988 when he was given to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Mike Bullard . He stayed there for two years before the Canadian was transferred to the Washington Capitals . During his first season in the US capital, he was given to the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 16, 1991 together with Bob Rouse in exchange for Al Iafrate .
In Toronto Zezel stayed until 1994, before he was used in the following season for both the Dallas Stars from the NHL and the Kalamazoo Wings from the International Hockey League . From 1995 to 1997 the center played again for St. Louis, then until 1999 for the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks from the NHL and for New Jersey's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Albany River Rats .
For family reasons, he ended his NHL career in 1999. From 2002 to 2005 he played again for the Cambridge Hornets in the Ontario Hockey Association .
In 2001, Zezel nearly died of hemolytic anemia , but recovered and continued treatment for the disease. Eight years later, his health deteriorated drastically, so he had to undergo chemotherapy and his spleen was removed. As a result, he fell into a coma, and on May 26, 2009, it was announced that life support systems had been turned off. He died the same day in a Toronto clinic.
