Career
Rouse first played four years from 1980 to 1984 in the Western Hockey League with the Billings Bighorns , Nanaimo Islanders and Lethbridge Broncos . With the Broncos, the defender won the President's Cup , the championship trophy of the WHL, in the 1982/83 season . He then took part in the Memorial Cup with the team . In the previous year, Rouse was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft 1982 in 80th place by the Minnesota North Stars from the National Hockey League .
After the end of his junior career, Rouse played his first NHL game for the franchise at the end of the 1983/84 season and remained loyal to the team until the 1988/89 season . In March 1989, after almost five years in the service of the team, the management transferred him together with Dino Ciccarelli to the Washington Capitals . In return, Mike Gartner and Larry Murphy gave these to the North Stars. The Canadian then stayed in the US capital for almost two years until January 1991, before switching clubs again - this time with Peter Zezel . In exchange for the powerful defender Al Iafrate , the two players were sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs .
Also in the Canadian metropolis, Rouse earned a place in the squad and was in the squad for the rest of the 1990/91 game year and the following four. In the summer of 1994 he moved again within the NHL when he went to the Detroit Red Wings as a free agent . With the team he won the Stanley Cup in two consecutive seasons in 1997 and 1998 . After the second success, Rouse signed in the summer of 1998 with the San Jose Sharks , where his contract was dissolved in December of the 1999/2000 season . As a result, Rouse ended his active career at the age of 33.
International
With the Canadian national team , Rouse took part in the 1987 World Cup in the Austrian capital Vienna . There he finished fourth with the team. In four tournament games, the defender remained pointless.
