Career
Craig Wolanin began his career as a hockey player with the Kitchener Rangers , for which he was active in the 1984/85 season in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . He was then selected in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as the third player overall by the New Jersey Devils . For this, the defender played in the National Hockey League for the next five years , and in the 1989/90 season he also made six appearances for New Jersey's farm team , the Utica Devils from the American Hockey League . On March 6, 1990, he was given in exchange for Peter Šťastný to the Nordiques de Québec . With these he played until they moved to Denver , Colorado in 1995 . Then the transfer rights of the American went to Québec's successor team Colorado Avalanche . For the Avalanache, the left-handed shooter scored eight goals in 82 games in the 1995/96 season and made 20 templates.
The 1996/97 season began Wolanin with the Tampa Bay Lightning , but was released to the Toronto Maple Leafs after only 15 missions in which he had remained pointless . With the Canadians he could never really prevail in the following years, among other things, a serious knee injury, which he had sustained in a game against the Montréal Canadiens on November 1, 1997, threw him back again and again. After he could only play 33 games in a year and a half in Toronto, his contract was not renewed. Finally, the former international signed on January 31, 1999 as a free agent with the Detroit Vipers from the International Hockey League . With these he ended his career at the end of the season at the age of 32.

For the USA Wolanin took part in the World Championships in 1987 , 1991 and 1994, as well as the Canada Cup in 1991 . At the Canada Cup 1991 he reached second place with the USA.
