Christian Wolanin (born March 17, 1995 in Québec City , Québec ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League since March 2018 and at the same time for their farm team , the Belleville Senators , in of the American Hockey League plays on the position of defender . His father Craig was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Wolanin was born in the Franco-Canadian metropolis of Québec City , while his father Craig was under contract with the Nordiques de Québec from the National Hockey League . After moving several times, including to Denver in the US state of Colorado , the family settled in Rochester , Michigan . Christian Wolanin himself played in the junior league United States Hockey League for the Green Bay Gamblers and the Muskegon Lumberjacks during his junior years between 2012 and 2015 . Overall, he completed 181 games in the league over the period of three seasons. At the end of the 2014/15 season, the defender was appointed to the USHL's Second All-Star Team and was selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in 107th place by the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League.
After the draft, Wolanin did not switch to the professional field, but began studying at the University of North Dakota , where he was active for the university team in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his sophomore year he won the national college championship with the team. At the end of his third year in March 2018, he received a contract offer from the Senators, whereupon his time at the university ended prematurely when he entered the professional world. During the remainder of the 2017/18 season , he played ten games for the team from the Canadian capital. In the 2018/19 game year he came to both the NHL and Ottawa's farm team , the Belleville Senators , in the American Hockey League .
International
For his home country the United States, Wolanin played in the junior division at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge , which he won with the team. The defender achieved as many assists in four tournament games and found himself in the all-star team at the end of the tournament.
The defender, who has both US and Canadian citizenship, made his US senior team debut at the 2019 World Cup in Slovakia when he was re-nominated during the tournament. In six tournament games he remained pointless and was eliminated with the team in the quarter-finals.
