Anna Bella Geiger (* 1933 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian sculptor , painter , graphic artist and teacher of contemporary art.

life and work

Geiger began her artistic studies in the studio of the painter Fayga Ostrower in the 1950s . In 1954 she studied art history at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and at New York University and returned to Brazil in 1955. From 1960 to 1965 she took courses in the metal engraving studio of the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, where she began teaching three years later. In 1969 she moved to New York with her husband and four children and returned to Rio de Janeiro in 1970. In 1980 she took part in the 39th Venice Biennale . In 1982 she received a scholarship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in New York. She taught at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Gent , Antwerp , at the School of Visual Arts of Parque Lage in Rio. She has given courses at the School of Fine Arts in Beijing , MoMA in New York, the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art in Paris and many other international institutions. Her works, which are characterized by the use of different media, are kept by galleries and private collections in the USA, China, Brazil and Europe.
