Christopher Arnold Terreri (born November 15, 1964 in Providence , Rhode Island ) is a former American ice hockey goalkeeper . During his career he played for the New Jersey Devils , San Jose Sharks , Chicago Blackhawks and New York Islanders in the National Hockey League .

Career

Terreri first played four years from 1982 to 1986 at Providence College in the leagues of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the university team he was only defeated in the final of the national championship in the 1984/85 season, but the American was awarded various awards due to his achievements, including the nomination as Most Valuable Player of the final tournament for the championship.

For the 1986/87 season Terreri switched to the professional camp after he had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1983 in the fifth round in 85th position by the New Jersey Devils . This put him in his rookie season both in their farm team in the American Hockey League and in the NHL squad. He then spent the following two seasons mainly in the farm team before he was given the post of back-up goalkeeper behind Sean Burke in the 1988/89 season . After three seasons as a goalkeeper between 1990 and 1993, he lost the place for the 1993/94 season to Martin Brodeur . Since Terreri saw no chance of being used permanently after winning the Stanley Cup of the Devils in the spring of 1995, in which Brodeur had a large share, he was transferred to the San Jose Sharks in November 1995 , which after the injury of the regular goalkeeper Artūrs Irbe had been looking for an experienced replacement. The American could not convince with his performances and was given up in the middle of the 1996/97 season to the Chicago Blackhawks . This sent him back to the New Jersey Devils after a year and a half in another transfer business. In New Jersey, Terreri took over the post of backup behind Brodeur. When he was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft , the Devils asked for a transfer deal to bring him back to New Jersey. The Wild complied with the request and signed defender Brad Bombardir in return . His last NHL station was the New York Islanders , who received him in a transfer deal in March 2001 when the Devils brought John Vanbiesbrouck to New Jersey.

On August 4, 2001 he officially ended his career and switched back to the organization of the New Jersey Devils, where he worked as an assistant and goalkeeper coach for the Albany River Rats , the then AHL farm team of New Jersey, until the end of the 2005/06 season , was active. From 2007 to 2010 Terreri was hired as a goalkeeping coach with the Lowell Devils , before he took over the same position with the New Jersey Devils for the 2010/11 season .

International

In addition to numerous appearances for the US national team as a junior player, where he won a bronze medal at the 1986 World Junior Championships , Terreri was used at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary and the 1997 World Cup .
