Paul Stanton (born June 22, 1967 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey player who played in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins , the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders and in the DEL for the Adler Mannheim , the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and the Frankfurt Lions played.
Player career
The 1.86 m tall defender began his career on the University of Wisconsin team in the NCAA game operations before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft as 149th in the eighth round of the Penguins .
Initially, the right-handed shooter played with the Muskegon Lumberjacks , a Pittsburgh farm team in the International Hockey League , but by the next year he was a permanent member of the Penguins' regular squad. With the franchise from Pennsylvania Stanton won in 1991 and 1992 the Stanley Cup , the 1993/94 season he finally moved to the Boston Bruins. However, both during his engagement with the Bruins and later with the NY Islanders, he was used more and more often in low-class farm teams, so that he finally decided to move to Europe.
The American was on the ice for the Adler Mannheim for five years and won the German championship in 1997 , 1998 and 1999 . This was followed by two seasons with the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and two seasons with the Frankfurt Lions , with whom he was able to celebrate his fourth DEL championship in 2004 as captain . In his first season in Frankfurt, Stanton was the most punished player in the entire DEL main round with 167 penalty minutes.
In the 2004/05 season he finally moved to the Malmö Redhawks , where he ended his career after a year. Today, Stanton coaches the Florida Gulf Coast University ice hockey team .
International
For the US national ice hockey team Paul Stanton played a total of 13 games at the ice hockey world championships in 1995 and 1996 , when Team USA won the bronze medal.
