Scott Joseph Lachance (* 22. October 1972 in Charlottesville , Virginia ) is a former American ice hockey player , who during his playing career Between 1992 and 2007, among others for the New York Islanders , Montreal Canadiens , Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League played on the position of defender .
Career
Lachance first played between 1988 and 1990 at the Springfield Olympics in the New England Junior Hockey League , where he got 102 scorer points in 70 games . In the fall of 1990, the defender moved to Boston University and played there for a year for the ice hockey team in Hockey East , a division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With the so-called Terriers , the then 19-year-old won the Hockey East championship at the end of the season and in the summer of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft was selected in fourth position by the New York Islanders in the first round .
Before Lachance switched to the professional field, he joined the American ice hockey association USA Hockey and prepared with the team for large parts of the 1991/92 season for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , France , and also played the 1992 Junior World Championship before he did accrued at the Olympics. After the Winter Games, the defender ran for the rest of the season with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League . In the following seven seasons Lachance was a fixture in the squad and was only transferred to the Montréal Canadiens in March 1999, when the Islanders changed their team in many parts . In return, the Islanders received a third-round vote in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft . The Islanders' career was crowned with participation in the 1997 NHL All-Star Game .
In the French Canadians, the defender only ran up until the summer of 2000 when he joined the Vancouver Canucks as a free agent for two seasons . He then joined the Columbus Blue Jackets as a free agent for two years until 2004 . Due to the lockout -related failure of the 2004/05 NHL season, Lachance paused a year from playing ice hockey and found no new NHL team to sign him for the 2005/06 season . He then moved abroad for the first time and spent the season in Switzerland . There he was responsible for the Kloten Flyers of the National League A active. In the summer of 2006 he returned to North America and spent his last professional time with the Lowell Devils in the American Hockey League .
International
Lachance first played for his native USA at the 1991 World Junior Championship when he was elected to the tournament's All-Star Team. At the Junior World Championship in 1992 he won the bronze medal with the Americans and remained with the association to prepare for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , France . There, the Americans took fourth place.
Lachance also made appearances at the 1996 , 1997 and 1999 World Championships . At the World Cup in 1996 in the Austrian capital Vienna , he won another bronze medal.
