Career
As a player
Pavlov began his career as an ice hockey player in the Soviet Union, including for the Dinamo Riga team , before moving to Germany for the first time to EV Landsberg in the 1992/93 season. Together with Olegs Znaroks , he was in the then ice hockey Oberliga Süd at the side of Jockl Ried and Manni Korb largely responsible for the Upper Bavarian champions.
Pavlov's first coach in Germany was the Czech Florian Strida . Although Pavlov lost the league championship in his first season with EV Landsberg (2: 8/4: 4 against Frankfurt ), they managed to keep the upper hand in the promotion games and made it into the 2nd Bundesliga in qualifying against SC Riessersee . In the 1993/94 season he played briefly for Vítkovice in addition to EV Landsberg .
Due to his stay in Riga, Pavlov received his Latvian passport in 1996 and was henceforth eligible to play for Latvia . Later he also received a German passport.
With Aleksandrs Kerčs and Igor Pawlow, two players played in the Hacker-Pschorr-Liga team in the 1996/97 season , who made it into the A group of the World Cup with the Latvian national team and defeated Germany 8-0 at the 1997 World Cup had. In the summer of 1998 Igor Pawlow moved from EV Landsberg to EHC Freiburg in the 1998/99 Bundesliga . He had to deal with his team from EHC Freiburg due to the sporting crisis with strong criticism. During the time in Freiburg, Pavlov played in a series of attacks with Oļegs Znaroks , Tobias Samendinger and David Sulkovsky . The coach in Freiburg at the time was Thomas Dolak senior . In the summer of 1999 he moved back to EV Landsberg, who was relegated to the regional league . He last played in the 2000/01 season with the Revierlöwen Oberhausen .

He made his first experience as a trainer as an assistant trainer at Revierlöwen Oberhausen , where he worked with head trainer Peter Draisaitl . From 2002 Igor Pavlov worked for the Fischtown Pinguins , initially as an assistant coach and from 2004 as head coach. In the seasons 2005/06 and 2006/07 he was elected coach of the year. Pavlov was released from his position as a trainer with the Fischtown Pinguins at the end of October 2007 due to the lack of success, but initially stayed with the club with activities in the area of scouting and the club's environment.
In January 2008, Pavlov moved to the Eisbären Regensburg , where he took on the role of coach. In the 2008/09 season he was head coach of the Krefeld Penguins . With the Krefeld team he reached the play-off quarter-finals, where the team was eliminated against the DEG Metro Stars . In February 2009, his contract was extended by one year to 2010, when his employer pulled the corresponding contract option.
At the end of the 2009/10 season, Igor Pavlov negotiated a termination of the contract with the Krefeld Penguins , because he was hoping for an offer from his home country. Since this did not materialize and the penguins did not want to sign Igor Pavlov again, Pavlov switched to the Cologne Sharks. There he signed a one-year contract for the 2009/10 season . On December 2, 2009, Pavlov and his assistant Rupert Meister were relieved of their duties as trainers for the Kölner Haie; At this point the Haie were in 13th place in the DEL table.
Pavlov then worked as a tactical coach at HK Sibir Novosibirsk before he was employed as head coach at HK Spartak Moscow between October and December 2010 . After Christian Weber's dismissal , Pawlow was hired in February 2011 as the head coach of the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the National League A.
For the 2012/13 season Pavlov returned to Germany and received a one-year contract with the DEL club Hannover Scorpions . When he took over the team, the Lower Saxony had the worst season since joining the DEL and finished bottom of the table. For this reason, the budget was cut and Pavlov had to include more young players in the team. As a result, the Hanover Scorpions reached eleventh place in the main round in the 2012/13 season and just barely missed the play-offs. Therefore, in March 2013, Igor Pavlov's contract with Lower Saxony was extended for another year. However, due to the bankruptcy and the associated sale of the DEL license to the Schwenninger Wild Wings , the contract with the Hannover Scorpions was terminated.
From November 2013 Igor Pavlov was the trainer of the Heilbronner Falken in the DEL2 , before he was released in December 2014. In January 2018 he returned to the Eisbären Regensburg in the Oberliga Süd as the successor to Joseph Heiss .
