Rupert Meister (born March 11, 1965 in Landshut ) is a former ice hockey goalkeeper who most recently worked as an assistant coach for the Kölner Haien in the German ice hockey league . The trained mechanical engineer was the second goalkeeper behind Bernie Englbrecht in 1983 with the EV Landshut German champion and completed two A-internationals for the DEB selection . After completing his active career, he acquired the A coaching license and was goalkeeping coach for the DEB junior teams in 2002/2003 and was responsible for DEB coaching training in the goalkeeper sector.
Career as a player
Rupert Meister started in 1972 in the junior division of the EV Landshut and played in the men's team of the club from 1982, with which he won the German championship in the first year in the adult division. As the second goalkeeper behind Bernie Englbrecht , however, he only made a few appearances in the following years, moving to ECD Iserlohn in 1987 . However, he only became the first goalkeeper at EC Hedos Munich , with whom he made promotion to the Bundesliga in 1988/89. During this time he was invited by an NHL team to the screening course, but could not prevail there. From Munich he moved to Eisbären Berlin in 1992 , where he shared the goalkeeping position with André Dietzsch until 1995 .
This was followed by a brief engagement with the Augsburger Panthers and almost two seasons with the Frankfurt Lions before he left first-class ice hockey. 1997-1999 he played at Deggendorfer EC , before he helped in the 1999/2000 season to lead his home club Landshut Cannibals, which was downgraded after the DEL team moved to the Oberliga Süd, into the single-track Oberliga.
Career as a coach
In 2000 Meister acquired the DEB-A license and initially worked as a junior trainer in the DNL team at EV Landshut . In 2002/03 he looked after the young goalkeepers of the German Ice Hockey Federation and worked as an assistant coach at DEB. From August 2003 to February 2004 Master was assistant coach at the Kassel Huskies under Axel Kammerer , but left the club after his replacement and became a full-time goalkeeper and DNL coach at the Kölner Haien. With the youth team, he won the DNL championship for the first time in the club's history in 2006/07. On December 2, 2008 he was promoted to head coach of the Kölner Haie after his predecessor Clayton Beddoes was dismissed for lack of success. In the 2009/10 season master took up the post of assistant coach until the beginning of December; on December 2, 2009, he and head coach Igor Pavlov were relieved of their posts.
In March 2010, Meister was introduced to the German national team as the new goalkeeping coach, replacing Klaus Merk in this position .
