Arnaud Briand (born April 29, 1970 in Sydney , Nova Scotia ) is a former Canadian - French ice hockey player and current coach , who worked for the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League and the Luleå HF during his active time from 1987 to 2005 played in the Swedish Elitserien .

Career

Arnaud Briand began his career as a hockey player with the Castors de Saint-Jean , for which he was active from 1987 to 1989 in the Canadian junior league QMJHL . Then the center played for two years for the professional team of Girondins de Bordeaux in the French Ligue Magnus . He then moved to his league rivals Hockey Club de Reims . In Reims, the left shooter developed into one of the league's best players and received the Albert Hassler trophy twice in a row in 1996 and 1997 as the best French player in the Ligue Magnus. The 1997/98 season he ended with HC Courmaosta in the Italian Serie A1 , but returned to Reims after eight games in which he had scored eight goals and prepared nine more. With his team he won the French championship for the first time in his career in the 1999/2000 season . With 48 scorer points in 40 games, the national player had a significant share in winning the title.

Following the championship title in 2000 with Reims, Briand was signed by the Augsburg Panthers from the German Ice Hockey League . With the Swabians he scored twelve goals and 16 assists in 56 games. He then received a contract with Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien , in which he could not prevail. From 2002 to his retirement in 2005 at the age of 35, the four-time Olympic participant for Rouen Hockey Elite 76 was on the ice in the domestic Ligue Magnus, with which he was again champion in the 2002/03 season and the coupe in 2004 and 2005 de France , the national cup competition, won. In the 2007/08 season Briand worked as an assistant coach under the Franco-Canadian Alain Vogin at his ex-club from Rouen.

International

For France , Briand only took part in the 1990 U20 Junior B World Cup in the junior division. In the senior division for France, he took part in the B World Championships in 1991 , 2002 and 2003 and the A World Championships in 1994 , 1996 , 1997 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000 and 2004 . He was also in the French squad at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , 1994 in Lillehammer , 1998 in Nagano and 2002 in Salt Lake City, as well as in qualifying for the 2002 Winter Games. In total, Briand completed 93 international games for France, in which he scored 27 goals scored and prepared another 21.
