The Boxers de Bordeaux are a French ice hockey team from Bordeaux , which was founded in 1974 in the Dogues de Bordeaux and has played in the Ligue Magnus , the highest French ice hockey league , since 2015 .

history

The association was founded in 1974. Under the name Dogues de Bordeaux, the ice hockey team played in its early days, especially in the fourth-class Division 3 . With two successive promotions in 1985 and 1986, the march through Division 2 into the second-rate Division 1 succeeded . With a fourth place in the main round, Bordeaux managed to stay in the league right away, before the Dogues first achieved promotion to the Ligue Magnus , the top French division, in the 1987/88 season. After the rise, the name of the professional team was changed to Girondins de Bordeaux after incorporation into the sports club Girondins Bordeaux and they improved in each of the following three years, but the team had to withdraw to Division 1 in 1991 for financial reasons. There Bordeaux secured the second division title in 1992, but the financial situation of the club worsened, which went bankrupt and instead of the direct return to the Ligue Magnus under the name Aquitains de Bordeaux had to start again in the fourth division 3. In the first two years as Aquitains managed to march straight through to Division 1, in which they secured relegation in the 1994/95 season.

For the 1995/96 season, the tradition of the club was continued and the original name Dogues de Bordeaux was taken over again. The Dogues immediately achieved promotion to Ligue Magnus, in which they each reached the playoff quarter-finals in the following two years. In the 1998/99 season, the club ran into financial difficulties again and went bankrupt again. The team started the second restart as Boxers de Bordeaux again in Division 3, in which they immediately rose to Division 2. It was not until 2006 that they returned to Division 1. Since returning to Division 1, Bordeaux did not get past the playoff semi-finals. In 2015 he returned to Ligue Magnus after 16 years.
