The Športna dvorana Podmežakla (until 2013 Dvorana Podmežakla ) is a sports and ice rink in Jesenice, Slovenia and the home of the local ice hockey club HDD Jesenice and the youth club HD mladi Jesenice . The grandstands and the ice rink have existed since 1954, but it wasn't until 1978 that the hall received the roof it is known today.
history
After the arena was completed, the infrastructure in the hall was not renovated for a long time. The roof, in particular, showed various weak spots over the years, so that renovation was started in 2009. In 2010, an east grandstand was built, increasing the capacity from 4,500 to 5,900. The second phase of the renovation took place in 2013, after which the hall was renamed Športna Hala Podmežakla . In the course of the renovation, the audience capacity fell to around 4,500 for ice hockey games (5,500 for basketball), as part of the standing room was replaced by seats.
The hall is particularly well-known among ice hockey fans for the voices of the fans of HK Jesenice, which can unfold easily thanks to the construction of the two opposite grandstands. The externally visible supports in the form of an upside-down V , which make the hall recognizable from afar, are also characteristic. The hall's infrastructure includes a small café that is open to all games.
In summer the hall is also used for concerts and inline hockey games. For this purpose, the floor under the ice surface can be covered with a plastic covering.
The hall was one of five venues for the 2013 European Basketball Championship .
