Radek Bonk (* 9. January 1976 in Krnov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1990 to 2014, among other 1042 games for the Ottawa Senators , Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League on contested the position of the center . In addition, he completed another 319 games in the Czech Extra League , where he was Czech champion with HC Oceláři Třinec in 2011 . Bonk celebrated his greatest career success, who was selected in third overall position in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 , but in the jersey of the Czech national team by winning the gold medal at the 1996 World Cup .

Career

Bonk he grew up in the Czech town of Krnov near Ostrava . He has three siblings. His talent for ice hockey was discovered early on. In his homeland he played for ZPS Zlín . In 1993 he moved across the pond to the International Hockey League at Las Vegas Thunder . There he played an outstanding season and was drafted in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators in the first round as third. He made it into the NHL in his first season, but could not fully live up to the great expectations. In the first five years he never got over 35 scorer points. Only then did the knot burst and Bonk was always among the top scorers of the Senators in the following years. After 10 years, Bonk and the Senators parted ways. He spent the 2004/05 strike season in his native Czech Republic and then returned to the NHL. His first season with the Canadiens de Montréal was mixed and the second ended without qualifying for the play-offs .

In the summer of 2007 he moved to the Nashville Predators . Before the 2009/10 season he signed a contract with Lokomotive Yaroslavl in the Continental Hockey League , but left the team after seven games and returned to the Czech Republic. There he played at HC Oceláři Třinec . With this he won the Czech championship title at the end of the 2010/11 season .

He ended his career in May 2014 at the age of 38.
