Hugh John Plaxton (* 16th May 1904 in Barrie , Ontario ; † 1. December 1982 in Mississauga , Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey player , who in his playing days from 1921 to 1933, among other things for the Montreal Maroons in the National Hockey League played Has. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1928 , he won the gold medal as a member of the Canadian national team. His brother Herbert and his cousin Roger were also Olympic champions in ice hockey in 1928.
Career
Hugh Plaxton began his career as an ice hockey player at the University of Toronto , which he attended from 1921 to 1925, while he was also active for their ice hockey team in the senior championship of the Ontario Hockey Association . The winger then played for three years for the Toronto Varsity Grads, with whom he won the Allan Cup , the Canadian amateur championship, in 1927 . With the Varsity Grads, he represented Canada at the 1928 Winter Games. Following the tournament, he paused four years with ice hockey and instead worked as a lawyer.
For the 1932/33 season , Plaxton resumed his career as a hockey player and joined the Montreal Maroons from the National Hockey League . In 15 NHL games he scored only one goal and two assists in the NHL for Montreal, after which he spent the rest of the season with the Windsor Bulldogs from the International Hockey League and the Vancouver Maroons from the Western Canada Hockey League before his Career finally ended.
In the election for the Canadian House of Commons in 1935 , he successfully ran for the Liberal Party of Canada . During World War II he served as Lieutenant Commander on HMCS York . After the end of the war he resumed his work as a lawyer.
International
For Canada , Plaxton took part in the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , where he and his team won the gold medal.
