The 8th European Ice Hockey Championship took place in Belgium for the first time . The tournament was held in Antwerp from March 7th to 11th, 1923 . With five participating teams there was a new record participation. Participants were defending champion Czechoslovakia as well as teams from Sweden , France , Switzerland and the host country Belgium . For the French it was the first European Championship appearance, which immediately ended with winning the runner-up. Sweden won its second European championship.
