Palais de Glace (Antwerp)
The Palais de Glace (French for ice palace ) was an ice rink in the Belgian city of Antwerp .
The building was built in 1910 according to a design by the architect Walter Van Kuyck as a roller-skating hall on the Gezondstraat, today Henri van Heurckstraat, with an area of 75 by 25 meters. As early as 1913 it was converted into an ice rink, the ice rink was 56 by 18 meters. During the 1920 Summer Olympics , the Palais de Glace hosted both figure skating and ice hockey competitions . In 1923 the games of the European ice hockey championship took place in the hall .
In the following years, the building was converted for commercial purposes and served, among other things, for the city's taxi center as a storage facility for their vehicles; most recently it was used as a multi-storey car park under the name Garage Leopold . In early 2016 the complex was demolished; residential buildings will be built in its place.
