The 11th European Ice Hockey Championship was a highlight in European Championship history. With nine participating teams, 25 games and a duration of eight days, the tournament broke all previous records. The championship took place for the third time in Switzerland , played from January 11th to 18th, 1926. All games took place in Davos . In addition to host Switzerland, the participants were the defending champions Czechoslovakia , Great Britain , France , Italy , Spain , Austria , Poland and Belgium. The British took part in a European Championship for the first time since winning the title in 1910 .

The competition should originally be held as a world championship. The Canadian team had to cancel, however, as their captain was indispensable after his wedding - they didn't want to start without him. Therefore, only the European Championship was played.

The large number of participants required a complex competition mode. The game was initially played in three preliminary round groups, each with three teams. The group winners qualified directly for the final round, while the group runners-up played the fourth final round participant in a round of hope (all games were played on one day). The third placed of the preliminary round groups played in a placement round for places eight and ninth and for the chance as the winner of the placement round to be able to play against the third placed in the hope round for place six.

The European champion was Switzerland, which took advantage of its home advantage, and was able to prevail in front of defending champions Czechoslovakia and Austria, but only in a decisive round.
