Tadeusz Adamowski

Tadeusz "Ralf" Adamowski (born November 19, 1901 in Lausanne , Switzerland ; † August 22, 1994 in New York City, New York , USA ) was a Polish ice hockey player and coach .

Tadeusz Adamowski was born the son of Polish immigrants from the USA in Switzerland when they were on a visit to Europe. On his return to the USA he attended Harvard University , where he played ice hockey in addition to various other sports. Despite the planned return trip after a stay in Poland, he stayed and instead played ice hockey for AZS Warsaw . With the team he won the Polish championship five times in a row between 1926 and 1931 . During his time in Poland he also worked as a trainer. During the Second World War he served as a reservist in the Polish Army and was taken prisoner by Germany . Most of these he had to spend in officers' camp II C in Woldenberg . After the war he returned to the USA and worked for UNICEF there.

International

For the Polish national ice hockey team Adamowski took part in the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz as team captain. He himself scored two goals in two games during the tournament. At the European Championships in 1929 he won the silver medal with his country. He also received the silver medal in the European championship with Poland at the 1931 World Championship , when the European Championship was part of the World Cup. He played a total of 40 international matches in which he scored 16 goals.

Tadeusz Adamowski came from a family of artists. His uncle Tymoteusz Adamowski was a well-known musician who worked for the Boston Pops Orchestra , among others . Together with Tadeusz's father Józef and his wife Antonia they formed the Adamowski Trio . His sister Helenka Pantaleoni was an actress, human rights activist and founder of the US Fund for UNICEF . His aunt Helene was the wife of the diplomat Ignacy Jan Paderewski .
