A ski jumping competition was held at the II. Olympic Winter Games in St. Moritz in 1928 . This was also the jumping of the 5th Nordic World Ski Championships . In addition to Olympic medals, world championship medals were also awarded.
The Olympic champion was the Norwegian Alf Andersen , his compatriot Sigmund Ruud won the silver and Rudolf Burkert from Czechoslovakia the bronze medal.
Course of the competition
The judges were Østgaard from Norway , Jilek from Czechoslovakia and Straumann from Switzerland . Due to the ice in the track, the jumpers could only achieve lower speed in the first run than in the second. The later Olympic champion Alf Andersen from Norway managed the longest jump with 60 meters. The Norwegian Sigmund Ruud and Gérard Vuilleumier from Switzerland achieved the second best distance with 57.5 meters. After the first round, the Norwegians Alf Andersen, Sigmund Ruud and Jacob Tullin Thams took the first three positions on points.
During the break, a 40-minute discussion broke out as some jumpers complained about the run-up. After several phone calls, the jury had the inrun extended by 5 meters.
