The Ukelajat ( Russian Укэлаят ) is a 188 km long tributary of the Bering Sea in the extreme northeast of the Kamchatka region .

River course

The Ukelajat rises in the Koryak Mountains at an altitude of about 1000  m . It is fed by firn fields on the northern slopes of the mountains. The Ukelajat initially flows 90 km in an easterly direction through the mountains. To the south of the river, the Ledjanaja rises , with 2562  m the highest peak in the mountains. The river forms intertwined arms along its entire course . At river kilometer 55 the Pikaswajam , the most important tributary of the Ukelajat, flows into the river from the left. About five kilometers downstream, a left arm splits off, which only meets the main river again at the mouth. The Ukelajat flows in the lower reaches in an east-southeast direction to the sea. Over the last 7 kilometers, the river branches into several estuary arms that flow into an estuary . This is separated from the sea by two headlands. The estuary is located on the Deschnjowa Bay , 100 km west-southwest of the Chatyrka settlement . The catchment area of the Ukelajat covers an area of 6820 km².
