Paavo Ferdinand Nuotio (born March 13, 1901 in Heinola , † November 14, 1968 in Lahti ) was a Finnish winter sportsman and pesäpallo player.
Career
Winter sports
Nuotio, who started for the Lahden Hiihtoseura club from Lahti , celebrated successes in ski jumping and Nordic combined . From 1925 to 1927 he won the Finnish championship in ski jumping. At the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz , he started in both disciplines. He reached 12th place in ski jumping from the normal hill with jumps on 50 and 56 meters. In the Nordic combined he just missed a medal as fourth behind the Norwegians Johan Grøttumsbraaten , Hans Vinjarengen and John Snersrud . A year later he won the international competition in the same place and shortly afterwards in Davos.
Pesäpallo
In Pesäpallo , a Finnish type of baseball , Nuotio played for the club Lahden Suojeluskunta and won the Lahden Mailaveikkojen in the team in 1925 and the Swedish championship from 1929 to 1932. In 1933 he published the book Mypenlaskun opas with his sports friend Lauri Valonen .
