Franz Thannheimer (born April 7, 1904 , † 1971 in Oberstdorf ) was a German ski jumper .

Career

Thannheimer began his ski jumping career at SC Oberstdorf . In November 1925 he made the first jump on the newly converted Schattenbergschanze , but fell at 43 meters. On January 1st, 1927 he improved the hill record set by Gustl Müller at the same point to 46 meters.

A year later he was part of the squad for the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . Although he is an active athlete, as a trained chef he was also responsible for catering for the German Olympic team. In the individual jumping from the Olympic hill, he ended up in 17th place.

In the same year he set an unofficial world record with 75 meters. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1929 in Zakopane , Poland , Thannheimer reached 20th place with jumps on 48 and 48.5 meters.

Thannheimer ran his own carpentry shop in Oberstdorf until his death, which his son Alois took over.

In 2007 the essay Eine Oberstdorfer Sprunglegende: Memories of Franz Thannheimer by Eugen Thomma was published .
