Gustav "Justav" Jaenecke (born May 22, 1908 in Charlottenburg , † May 30, 1985 in Bonn ) was a German ice hockey and tennis player .

ice Hockey

From 1923 to 1944 he played at the Berliner Schlittschuhclub , while also in the 1944 war syndicate of BSchC with the SC Brandenburg Berlin was active. The trained banker was one of the first ice hockey stars in Germany and began his career as early as 1915 in the BSchC's junior team. In 1925 he was promoted to the first team of the ice skating club as a reservist. But he did not become a regular player until 1927, after a very good performance at the European Championships in Vienna. Between 1926 and 1937 he was German champion nine times with Berlin and won the Spengler Cup twice (1926 and 1928) . In 1944 he won his tenth championship with KSG Berliner SC / SC Brandenburg. Although he played mainly as a left winger, he was also used as a defender and often stayed on the ice for the full season. Because of his skills, he was considered one of the best players in Europe at the time, which was also recognized by the Canadians.

After the Second World War , he moved to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1946 and joined the local SC Riessersee . With this he won his championship titles 11-13 in 1947, 1948 and 1950, so that today he is still the ice hockey player with the most German championship titles. He also trained the offspring of the SC Riessersee. In 1951 he ended his active career.

In the national team he played from 1928 to 1939 and scored a quarter of all goals during that time. He was able to win the European Championship twice with Germany , as well as several medals at the World Championships and also the bronze medal at the 1932 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid .

In addition to his ice hockey career, he also played tennis for the BSchC . In 1932 he became German tennis champion and made five appearances in the Davis Cup team (opponents: Italy, Japan, Egypt). At times he also played as a double partner of the three-time Wimbledon finalist Gottfried von Cramm , with whom he was friends. His first wife Lisa, who became his girlfriend in 1937, he married in 1939. They divorced in 1947. He had to end his tennis career prematurely because of a knee injury sustained in ice hockey.

After the sports career

After finishing his sports career he became casino director in Bad Neuenahr . It was there that he met his second wife. In 1970 he initiated a support association for the ice skating club in Berlin, of which he was chairman. In 1975 he became the main shareholder of the Spielbank Berlin in the Europacenter. The casino company still bears his name today. Jaenecke was buried in the Bad Neuenahr cemetery.

Trivia

Jaenecke was never a member of the NSDAP and was also not drafted into the Wehrmacht, as he was considered indispensable as the manager of his shoe factory. However, the factory was destroyed in the war and later transferred to public ownership, as it was located in the eastern part of Berlin.
