St. Emmeramsmühle

The St. Emmeramsmühle is a restaurant with a beer garden in Munich . It is set up in a historic mill building in the St. Emmeram district of Munich's Oberföhring district on the Mittlere-Isar Canal .

The listed building dates from 1866 in its current form. Like the entire district of St. Emmeram , the mill is named after the holy bishop Emmeram of Regensburg , whose body is said to have been embarked here when it was transferred to Regensburg .

history

A mill near holy Emmeram was first mentioned in the 14th century. In 1711 the New Mill St. Emmeram was built. In 1825 the Emmeramsmühle received the concession to serve beer. Initially, only those farmers were allowed to be served who had their meal ground in the mill. In 1866 the mill was rebuilt to its present form.

The Emmeramsmühle was particularly popular towards the end of the 19th century, when the artist scene in neighboring Schwabing discovered the mill's idyllic location. The mill business became less and less important, and in 1903 the building was completely converted into an economy. The mill has been owned by the Spaten brewery since 1929 . Today the St. Emmeramsmühle has a beer garden with around 1,200 seats. In 2012 the food quality was rated negatively by the Süddeutsche Zeitung : “The portions are huge. However, the quality is lacking. ”On April 5, 2018, Falstaff considered St. Emmeramsmühle to be one of Munich's five best beer gardens near the Isar.
