St. Emmeram is a neighborhood in Munich 's Oberföhring district .

location

St. Emmeram belongs as a district of Oberföhring to the district 13 Bogenhausen . The district is located north of the center of Oberföhring on the Mittlere-Isar Canal .

history

According to tradition, should at the spot where St. Emmeram today lies the body of St. Emmeram at its transfer from Aschheim to Regensburg have been embarked on the Isar. A chapel is mentioned here as early as 822, which belonged to a royal estate. The last Carolingian king, Ludwig the child , gave the estate to the Bishop of Freising in 903 .

The old field name Küntal or Chüntal (Königstal) refers to this formerly royal estate. Since 1429 the name sannd Haymran (Sankt Emmeram) has been proven for the chapel and as a field name.

In addition to the Chapel of St. Emmeram in 1663 was a hermitage for hermits , who established a school for the children of the area, which was the first school in Munich's north-east. During the secularization of 1803, the Hermitage was abolished and the school was nationalized. In 1820 the chapel was demolished. 1866 was next to the St. Emmeramsmühle the Memorial Chapel St. Emmeram , which is a reminder of the demolished chapel.

St. Emmeram has had a mill since the 14th century. In 1711 the New Mill St. Emmeram was built, which was converted into today's St. Emmeramsmühle in 1866 and has been an inn since 1873.

In 1818 Sankt Emmeram became part of the municipality of Oberföhring, which was incorporated into Munich on July 1, 1913.

Townscape

Single-family houses with gardens define the townscape of St. Emmeram. The St. Emmeramsmühle restaurant with beer garden , located next to the St. Emmeram Memorial Chapel , attracts many visitors from Munich and the surrounding area.

Sankt Emmeram is accessed by two streets that lead from Oberföhring down the Isar high bank. St. Emmeram has been connected to the Munich tram network since December 2011 . In the quarter ending line 17 and at times also the Line 16 . At the St. Emmeramsmühle, the Mittlere-Isar-Kanal can be crossed to get to the St.-Emmeram-Brücke over the Isar .
