Gerry Davey

John Gerald "Gerry" Davey (born September 5, 1914 in Barking , United Kingdom , † February 12, 1977 in Orange County , Florida , USA ) was a British ice hockey player and referee, who was among other things in 1936 with his country Olympic champion.

Career

Gerry Davey immigrated to Port Arthur , Ontario with his family as a child . There he learned to play ice hockey with the Elmwood Midgets. As a teenager he returned to his British homeland in 1931 and played there in the following years for the Princes Ice Hockey Club , Queen's Club , Streatham Ice Hockey Club and the Wembley Lions. He also spent part of his career with the Falkirk Lions in Scotland. During World War II , he served in the Canadian Navy. In later years of his career he was a regular referee in the English National League .

International

For Great Britain , Davey participated in the 1932 European Championships at the 1934 , 1935 , 1937 and 1938 World Championships . He also represented his country at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he and his team won the gold medal. The tournament was also rated as a world and European championship, which is why he and his team also won these titles. He later represented his country again at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz . In 1949 he was inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame as the fourth player ever . The majority of the Olympic team from 1936 received this honor only in 1993.
