Queen's Club
The Queen's Club is a sports club in the London district of West Kensington . He organizes the annual Queen's Club Championships , one of the world's most important tournaments in lawn tennis . The Queen's Club is also the seat of the national association for " Real Tennis " (English term for Jeu de Paume ) and the venue for the British championships of this sport.
The world's first multi-purpose sports facility was built on the club grounds. Today it comprises 28 outdoor tennis courts, eight indoor tennis courts (also with lawn), two fields each for Jeu de Paume and rackets , three fields for squash and a gym.
history
The Queen's Club, named after Queen Victoria , was founded in 1886. In the first few decades, no fewer than 25 sports were played, including figure skating , baseball , athletics , soccer and rugby . During the 1908 Summer Olympics , the Queen's Club hosted competitions in indoor tennis, jeu de paume and rackets.
Until 1922, the home games of the Corinthian FC football club were played in the Queen's Club . A single international match took place here, the encounter between England and Wales on March 18, 1895 (the result was 1-1). In the late 1920s, most sports were relocated to other locations and the Queen's Club focused on tennis and related sports.
