Bob Wyman

James Robert "Bob" Wyman (born April 27, 1909 in West Ham , Greater London , United Kingdom , † 1978 in Surrey , United Kingdom) was a British ice hockey player and speed skater , who was among other things in 1936 with his country in ice hockey Olympic champion.

Career

Bob Wyman began his career as a hockey player in his British homeland with the Grosvenor House Canadians, for whom he played in the English National League in the 1933/34 season. From 1934 to 1936 he played for the Wembley Canadians. Other stations were the Richmond Hawks, Princes Ice Hockey Club and the Harringay Greyhounds. During World War II he served in the Royal Navy . After the war he still played for the Wembley Monarchs and Sussex, but could no longer build on his previous form.

In addition to ice hockey, Wyman was also a talented speed skater . He held the British indoor title for over half a mile and also won the open air record over 440 yards in January 1934.

International

For Great Britain Wyman participated in the World Championships in 1935 , 1938 and 1939 . He also represented his country at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where he and his team won the gold medal. The tournament was also rated as a world and European championship, which is why he and his team also won these titles. In 1993 he was posthumously inducted into the British Ice Hockey Hall of Fame .
