Juha Petteri Ylönen (born February 13, 1972 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League from 1989 to 2004 for the Phoenix Coyotes , Tampa Bay Lightning and Ottawa Senators, among others .
Career
Juha Ylönen began his career as a hockey player with the Espoo Blues , for which he was active from 1989 to 1991 in the I divisioona . He was then selected in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as the 91st player of the Winnipeg Jets . First, however, he played for two years for HPK Hämeenlinna , with whom he was runner-up in 1993, and for Jokerit Helsinki , for which he played from 1993 to 1996 and with whom he was Finnish champion for the first time in the 1993/94 season . He was able to repeat this success with his team in the 1995/96 season . The attacker also won the European Cup with Jokerit in 1995 and 1996 and was runner-up in 1995.
From 1996 to 2001 Ylönen was on the ice for the Phoenix Coyotes , who had previously received the rights to the player from the relocated Winnipeg Jets . After a season with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Ottawa Senators , the left-shooter returned to his Finnish homeland in the summer of 2002, where he ended his career with the Espoo Blues in 2004.
International
For Finland , Ylönen took part in the U20 Junior World Championships in 1991 and 1992 , as well as the World Championships in 1995 , 1996 , 2001 and 2003 . He was also in Finland's squad at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano and 2002 in Salt Lake City .
