The half-timbered house stands on a square-like extension at the confluence of Gartenstrasse with Borngasse. An inscription notes that it was built in 1761 for the court trumpeter Johann Caspar Schaum and his wife Maria Catharina. It is considered the birthplace of the Braunfels archivist Jacob Karl Schaum.
The lopsided and shingled building with coupled windows faces the street with the eaves . In the middle of the roof sits a dwelling , also with a coupled window. The portal has a profiled door frame with an inscription on the lintel .
