Naviglio della Martesana
The Naviglio della Martesana (more often Naviglio Martesana and in the past called Naviglio Piccolo ) is a historical Naviglio ( canal ) that connects Milan with the Adda River. The Adda gets its water from Lake Como .
The Naviglio Martesana is 9 to 18 meters wide, up to 3 meters deep and 38 kilometers long.
On his way he crosses the municipalities of Gorgonzola and Cernusco sul Naviglio , among others , in the immediate vicinity of Milan he then disappears under the city.
Through the historical transport routes Naviglio della Martesana, Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese , Milan was connected to the Adda and Ticino rivers and via these to Lake Maggiore and Lake Como and via the Po to the Adriatic Sea .
