action

Boulevard Beaumarchais in Paris

Since that morning, Commissioner Maigret has been interrogating a young woman named Nicole Lamure in his office on the Quai des Orfèvres . After her father's death, Nicole lived with her sister Louise, who is married to a fashion designer named Ferdinand Voivin. The three live in a spacious apartment on Boulevard Beaumarchais . After a few years, a love relationship developed between Nicole and her brother-in-law. Louise soon discovered that she had been cheated on and spied on the lovers. Ferdinand found himself in a desperate situation, unable to leave Louise and no longer able to Nicole. In the meantime, the sisters no longer speak to each other and only communicate with each other by letter. Both Louise and Nicole refuse to leave their shared domicile; Louise doesn't leave her sister alone with her husband, so they have to meet in a hotel. Louise is found dead on a Sunday evening with signs of poisoning. Maigret soon found out that Ferdinand - despite his intentions to kill - could not be to blame. He'd bought the poison, but hid it in a bicarbonate bottle so Louise wouldn't see his intentions.
