action

Maigret has a death in the house of the doctor Dr. Barion - a pulmonologist - to edit. The maid Olga Boulanger did not seem to have died of natural causes; In addition, she was five months pregnant. The maid's parents, Breton farmers, have decided to appear as private prosecutors; their suspicions are directed against the doctor. Maigret is looking for Dr. Barion to confront him with the suspicion that the doctor first impregnated her daughter and then - after all, he was married and had children - killed. In the meantime, Barion had attended the girl's autopsy and carried out his own investigations. It was discovered that the intestines of the dead were riddled with tiny holes that quickly led to blood poisoning. A tropical doctor called in finally solved the riddle; the method that was used, it was "the victim of a certain amount of fine that, needle hard awns administer sitting on the ear of corn, among other things, rye . These awns remain in the intestine, the walls of which they gradually pierce, which is inevitable ”.

The doctor had established that the suspicious food came into the house through what was known as Mr Monday ; a peddler who got lunch every Monday and, as a thank you, brought cream cakes that were meant for the doctor's children. But had Dr. Barion forbade the children to eat the cakes; They were nibbled by the maid at a later date. The doctor is therefore pretty sure that the awns were in the tartlets. The doctor also reports that he is being persecuted by a neurotic neighbor, an Englishwoman who is convinced that Barion loves her and that she is expecting a child from him. Maigret is now looking into the question of how the awns got into the tartlets and will follow Mr Monday's heels next Monday . The old man gets his creme tartlets from the pastry shop , which he visits regularly. Maigret then pays the baker a visit and asks her about normal and unusual processes on the Mondays of the past few weeks. He learns that the English woman regularly ordered half English, half French pastries in the pastry shop, so there were frequent misunderstandings and pastries were sent back with the deadly awns.
