Stora Gungflyet is a swinging lawn on Lake Kävsjön in Sweden, which is part of the Store Mosse National Park .

The swinging lawn extends in the south-eastern part of the lake and is about one kilometer wide and about 2 kilometers long. Depending on the water level of the lake, Stora Gungflyet also rises or falls. The Stora Gungflyet is a large lawn-like cover of plants and represents silting vegetation . The area is largely free of trees. However, birches and bushes also spread on the growing plant cover. Gail bush grows in open areas , beak sedge , fever clover and pond horsetail grow in the peripheral areas .

To the west of the Stora Gungflyet, where about ten crane pairs nest every year , there is a bird watching tower. The picture shows a view from a very old observation tower on the eastern edge of the area.

history

The formation of Stora Gungflyet began in the 19th century. The water level of the lake was lowered by one meter in 1840 in order to gain pasture and arable land. The former lake bed was covered by plants. In the 1950s, the mowing of the Stora Gungflyet area was stopped, so the area overgrown. The vegetation of the swinging lawn, which is freely developing today, is becoming more powerful.
