Rudolf Nilius

Rudolf Nilius (born March 23, 1883 in Vienna , † December 31, 1962 in Bad Ischl ) was an Austrian conductor and composer .

Nilius was initially a cellist , from 1912 conductor and from 1928 director of the Vienna Tonkünstler Orchestra . He also worked as a conductor of the Singverein der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and later the Vienna Oratorio Association. In 1921 Nilius founded the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Concerts. He led the Kapellmeister class at the New Vienna Conservatory and from 1921 taught at the State Academy of Music in Munich .

Among Nilius' students were u. a. the composers Filaret Barbu and Wilhelm Stark , the singer Hilde Konetzni and the musicologist Erwin Leuchter . He composed choral and orchestral works and church music.
