Lee McBee (born March 23, 1951 in Kansas City , Missouri , † June 24, 2014 ) was an American blues singer and harmonica player .

Life

McBee grew up in Kansas City, collecting blues and soul records in his teenage years. After moving to Lawrence, Kansas , he played in numerous blues and blues rock bands in the Midwest . Through his collaboration with Mike Morgan and The Crawl, where he replaced Darrell Nulisch as singer and harmonica player in 1989 , he became known nationwide. With this band he recorded six albums.

In 1999 he left Mike Morgan and formed his own band The Confessors. He performed regularly with the Confessors at BB's Lawnside BBQ, and when artists toured the Midwest, Lee McBee often went with them. Since April 2000 and throughout 2007 he worked again with Mike Morgan. In 2007 they made a joint European tour, where they performed at the 13th Lucerne Blues Festival and the France Blues Festival in Avignon. McBee can be heard on a few tracks on the 2008 album Stronger Every Day . In 2009 he was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame. He died in June 2014 at the age of 63.
