Edna Mayo

Edna Mayo , actually Edna Lane , (* 23. March 1895 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ; † 5. May 1970 in San Francisco , California ) was an American stage actress and film actress during the silent film - era .

Life

Her career essentially lasted from 1914 to 1918 when she was temporarily one of the leading actresses on Essanay , i.e. that is, it ended before the talk of the sound film . Mayo specialized in romantic confusion tragedies such as the 1916 "The Misleading Lady". In an interview with the Boonville Standard , she announced for publicity reasons that she had actually provided her own car for the scene in which she was kidnapped with her car . "Miss Mayo smilingly declared that if she were to be stolen away by a man who loved her she would rather it be done in her own car." From today's perspective, the film is interesting because Edward Arnold , who appeared in many screwball comedies of the 1930s and 1940s , made his first appearance here.

Her appearance in "Woman Hater" was probably a one-off return to the film business, in which she only had to play the disdained bride of a misanthropist, played by Henry B. Walthall .
