José Argüelles
José Argüelles (born January 24, 1939 in Rochester , Minnesota , † March 23, 2011 in Australia ) was a Mexican - American painter and writer of esoteric works.
José Argüelles studied at the University of Chicago , where he obtained a Ph.D. in art history. He was considered one of the initiators of the Earth Day concept. He has written numerous books in which he referred to the Mayan calendar and I Ching , among others . An alternative calendar model called Dreamspell comes from Argüelles with 13 months of 28 days each, which is based on the Mayan calendar and tries to reinterpret it esoterically.
