Otto Aurich (as Otto Aufrichtig , born February 11, 1900 in Vienna , † March 23, 1961 in Amsterdam ) was an Austro-Dutch actor and theater director.

Life

Otto Aufrichtig had his first demonstrable appearance in 1927 at the Landestheater Linz . From 1928 he was director at the Teplitz-Schönau city ​​theater , where his later second wife Lisl Frank was engaged in 1932 . The two emigrated to the Netherlands in 1936 , where they joined the theater troupe of the emigrant Fritz Hirsch . In 1939 they appeared in a Rudolf Nelson revue . After the German occupation of the Netherlands in 1940, they could still play in the theater of celebrities , and Aurich also appeared at the Joodsche Schouwburg in 1942 . In 1943 both were deported to the Westerbork transit camp, where Aurich participated in three of the six theater evenings designed by Max Ehrlich .

On September 4, 1944, Aurich was transferred to the Theresienstadt ghetto , from there to the Auschwitz concentration camp and finally to the Buchenwald concentration camp , where he was liberated. Lisl Frank-Aufrichtig was murdered on the death march from Auschwitz to the Christianstadt satellite camp of Groß-Rosen .

Aurich returned to the Netherlands and participated with Otto Dürer and Meyer Hamel (1895-1965) in the founding of the Hoofdstad Operetta . Aurich was married in third marriage to the actress Ruth Kuthan (* 1911) from 1949, who took over the management of the operetta house with Netty Hamel in 1965.
