John Malcolm Taylor (born March 23, 1933 in Leicester , East Midlands , † September 8, 1966 in Koblenz ) was an English Formula 1 racing driver.

Career

Taylor drove a total of five races in the automobile world championship . He contested his first race on July 11, 1964 at the Grand Prix of Great Britain for the team FR Gerard Cars with a Cooper . In the other four races, all in the 1966 season , he started for the David Bridges Team with a Brabham BT11 ; at the French Grand Prix he scored a world championship point for David Bridges.

John Taylor started on August 7, 1966 at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring . In the first lap he collided with the Matra of Belgian Jacky Ickx in the “Flugplatz” section . Taylor's vehicle took off, skidded down an embankment, and caught fire. Ickx, who freed Taylor, was able to continue the race. Taylor was first taken to the hospital in Adenau and shortly afterwards transferred to the Evangelisches Stift St. Martin hospital in Koblenz. Four and a half weeks after the accident, when he appeared to be recovering, Taylor died of a burn infection.

Taylor was married and had a son.
