Nils Gunnar Lorentz Nilsson (born March 3, 1923 in Nevishög , Staffanstorp municipality , † May 12, 2005 in Västra Frölunda, Gothenburg ) was a Swedish heavyweight boxer .
amateur
Nilsson won in 1948 at the Olympic Games in London the silver medal in the heavyweight division. In the final he was defeated by the Argentine Rafael Iglesias .
professional
He lost his first professional fight on November 11, 1949 in Gothenburg against the Jamaican Lloyd Barnett by technical knockout in the third round.
His fans soon gave him the name "Silver-Gunnar". On December 28, 1956 he resigned from boxing after a knockout victory in the fifth round over the Frenchman Francois Kania .
