Vesna Rožič (born March 23, 1987 in Ljubljana ; † August 23, 2013 in Burghausen , Bavaria , Germany ) was a Slovenian chess player . In 2007 and 2010 she won the Slovenian women's individual championship in Ljubljana.

Life

Vesna Rožič studied medicine and died of metastatic cancer of the peritoneum at the age of 26 in her final year of study .

successes

She took part for the Slovenian national team from 2001 to 2004 in four U18 European championships for women: 2001 and 2002 behind Ana Srebrnič on the second board and 2003 and 2004 on the top board. For the Slovenian women's national team, she played in six Mitropa Cups (2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012), with Slovenia winning the Mitropa Cup in 2005 and 2006 and taking second place in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012; Vesna Rožič received an individual gold medal in Brno in 2006 for her result of 6 out of 9 on the first board. She also played for the Slovenian women's selection at four European team championships (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 ) and chess Olympiads ( 2002 , 2008 , 2010 and 2012 ).

She played club chess in Slovenia for the ŠS Tomo Zupan Kranj (ŠS = chess school). In the Croatian women's league she played for the team from Zrinski Topolovac , she also played in the highest Greek league. In Austria she played in the Carinthian League for SK Feistritz Paternion from Paternion -Feistritz an der Drau.

Since April 2006 she has held the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). She achieved the standards for this at the 14th Ljubljana Open in June 2003, at the European Women's Team Championship in Gothenburg in 2005 and at the U18 European Women 's Championship in Herceg Novi in 2005 , where she defeated Anna Rudolf and Laura Rogule and among others Tied fourth behind bronze medalist Baira Kowanowa .

Her last Elo rating was 2260 in August 2013. She was behind Anna Musytschuk in second place in the Slovenian Elo ranking of women.
