Hella Brumme

Hella Brumme , née Ecke , (born March 23, 1946 in Harzgerode ) is a German horticultural engineer , non-fiction author and long-time director of the Europa-Rosarium in Sangerhausen . Together with Thomas Gladis, she named over 100 wild roses .

Life

After completing general school, the daughter of a farmer began a three-year vocational training course as a gardener in Quedlinburg in 1962 . After her training, she first worked at the Institute for Plant Breeding in Quedlinburg. In May 1972 she went to Sangerhausen as a gardener and since 1976 has worked as a scientific and technical assistant at the Rosarium. From 1976 to 1980 she completed a distance learning course in horticulture at the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences . After completing her degree in horticultural engineering, she was appointed deputy director of the Rosarium. In 1981 she took over the care of the rose collection in the Rosarium. After the head of the rosarium, Ingomar Lang, retired in 1999, she was appointed head of the rosarium. On July 1, 2004, the city of Sangerhausen appointed Hella Brumme as director of the Europa-Rosarium. She published several non-fiction books on roses, gave numerous lectures at national and international symposia and, with Thomas Gladis, specialized in cataloging, describing and naming wild roses. After her retirement on April 30, 2006, she led numerous seminars at the Sangerhausen rose school . Hella Brumme is the chairwoman of the Friends of the Rosarium Sangerhausen eV association . and advisory board member of the GRF Foundation Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen .

Hella Brumme received numerous honors for her commitment to building up and maintaining the rose collection in the Sangerhausen Rosarium. In 2004 she was awarded the Steinfurther Rosenring of the city of Bad Nauheim , in 2006 she was the first recipient of the Golden Rose of the city of Sangerhausen. In November 2006 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with ribbon . With the entry in the Golden Book on April 3, 2014, the city of Harzgerode recognized the special achievements of Hella Brumme.

Two rose cultivars were named in her honor: Johann Schmadlak dedicated a rose to carmine-red, loosely filled shrub rose to her in 1981. In 2009, the rose breeding company W. Kordes' Sons brought the white Rambler rose with golden yellow stamens onto the market. Hella Brumme christened the rose cultivation in the Sangerhausen Rosarium on July 3, 2009. The slightly fragrant rose was awarded an ADR rose and a gold medal at the Tokyo Rose Show in 2010 .

Rose names

Together with Thomas Gladis, Hella Brumme described and named over 115 rose varieties of the genus Rosa , 88 of which were from the dog roses section , 21 cinnamon roses , five Bibernell roses , three vinegar roses and one Carolina, Vereintgrifflige and Banks rose and a chestnut rose.
