ADR Rose is an award for new rose breeds that were planted in eleven different "ADR test gardens" (viewing gardens) in Germany and  remained healthy there for three years - without the use of pesticides - and have a high ornamental value.

The General German Rose Novelty Examination (ADR) is a working group made up of representatives from the Association of German Tree Nurseries, rose breeders and independent experts. Rose varieties that carry the ADR rating have previously been subjected to strict testing in order to assess the garden value of new roses. The test is based on characteristics such as the effect of the flower, scent, growth habit, profuse flowering, and winter hardiness. The most important evaluation criterion is resistance to leaf diseases.

The ADR test (General German Rose Novelty Test) was founded in 1950 by the rose breeders (mainly at the instigation of Wilhelm Kordes ) in the Association of German Tree Nurseries . The more than 150 ADR roses that have been awarded so far are particularly healthy (even without spraying) and are mainly planted in public green spaces.

In contrast to other rose awards, the ADR rating is withdrawn from varieties that no longer meet the requirements. For example, the world rose 'Snow White' (Kordes 1958) was revoked in 2004 after 44 years. The ADR rating is initially valid for 15 years and can be extended for a further 15 years if the re-examination is successful over 3 years.
