The Federation of German Tree Nurseries (BdB) eV is the professional association and interest group for tree nurseries in Germany, based in Berlin. As a representative of the approximately 1,000 affiliated companies, the BdB has the task of strengthening the tree nursery industry internally and externally, making it competitive and keeping it competitive. The BdB is divided into 16 regional associations, in which for the most part small and medium-sized companies are organized.

Interests and goals

The BdB advocates green cities and landscapes. In addition to public parks, this also includes private gardens. In addition, greater state investments in the “urban green” area are among the interests of the federal government. The association calls for an investment program that stipulates a quota of five percent of the construction cost for living greenery for all new building projects, especially in cities. This also includes the creation of an infrastructure for care by specialists from the BsB. The area of "tree research" in the operations of the association is supported in order to identify site-appropriate trees and shrubs and use them for natural air improvement. The association is also committed to the preservation and protection of the avenue trees and calls for a national strategy for green urban development that brings together all government, scientific and professional experts.

The BdB supports the authorities in their measures to prevent new pests such as the Asian longhorn beetle or the Caribbean fungus Xylella fastidiosa from spreading in Germany. It sets standards for consistent quality and a defined shape for nursery trees. These quality regulations are described in the "Quality regulations for tree nursery plants" set of rules of the Research Society for Landscape Development Landscaping (FLL), which is part of DIN . In addition to these quality regulations, the BdB is the author of further qualitative standards. The "certified brand tree nurseries" represented by the association are all certified according to the standard of the common agricultural policy of the EU. Together with the Bundessortenamt , the BdB traditionally operates the so-called “German tree inspection” and the “ General German rose novelty test ”. The local woody plants required by the federal legislature for use in the wild are checked and certified by the certification association of local woodland plants with external auditors.
