Freudiana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Freudiana is the title of a concept album and a resulting musical by Eric Woolfson about Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis .

The album was released in 1990 and the premiere of the musical under the direction of Peter Weck on December 19, 1990 in the Theater an der Wien was the first major in-house production of the United Bühnen Wien . Up to April 18, 1992, 320,000 visitors saw the musical in 380 performances. The German lyrics are by Lida Winiewicz and Brian Brolly .

Erik was played by Ulrich Tukur and Kai Peterson and in the second game series by Jacques Breuer and Kai Peterson. Kai Peterson sang the role of Erik on the German-language album of the original musical recording, which was recorded live on the stage of the Theater an der Wien in 1990 without an audience. Because of the largely held cover, it is also known as Black Freudiana .

Production: Alan Parsons

content

The American Erik is traveling with a tour group "Europe in 14 days" in the Sigmund Freud Museum in London. This group is the last tour of the day. Erik, as always a bit dreamy, gets lost, can no longer connect with his group and is locked in the museum. Tired, he falls asleep on the psychoanalyst's legendary couch and begins to dream. The objects ( FREUDIANA ) that surround him come to life, and some famous cases from Sigmund Freud's practice haunt Erik's dream. The girl from the tour group, whom Erik secretly adores, comes to life in his dream as Dora. Slowly he recognizes his personal problems in the various cases of Sigmund Freud, and he dares to walk into the tunnel, into the oedipal triangle, where he frees himself from his overpowering father. The knowledge gained from dream interpretation that night strengthens his self-confidence. The day after, he dares to speak to the girl he admires, "Dora", and confronts the tour guide with self-confidence for the first time.

music

Alan Parsons and Eric Woolfson are identified as producers of the album , while the rights remain with the Freudiana Music Company. This probably explains the lack of an explicitly named artist. Parsons has again invited some guest musicians: Leo Sayer , Graham Dye , The Flying Pickets , Kiki Dee , Eric Stewart , Frankie Howerd , Marti Webb , Gary Howard , Chris Rainbow and John Miles . Eric Woolfson can also be heard in many of the 18 tracks. The album sounds clearly like The Alan Parsons Project (which may also be due to the fact that project musicians Ian Bairnson , Stuart Elliott , Laurie Cottle and Richard Cottle were involved), but it also has one or the other surprise to offer.
