The rose variety Snow White ( syn.Iceberg and Fée de Neiges ) was bred by W. Kordes' sons in 1958 from the varieties' Robin Hood '×' Virgo '. The name is derived from the fairy tale Snow White - "who is the most beautiful in the whole country?"

Properties and use

Snow White is a modern shrub rose from the floribunda group , flowers white, half double, with a light fragrance. It grows up to 150 cm high and can be used as a floribunda rose, in group planting, for hedges or in pots. Snow White is very hardy, robust and also thrives in partial shade.

The climbing rose "Climbing Schneewittchen" (syn. 'Climbing Iceberg') is a sport discovered in 1968 by 'Schneewittchen', almost stingless and about 3 m high.

Another sport with a strong pink color, 'Brilliant Pink Iceberg' (syn. 'PRObril'), was discovered in 1999 in Weatherley, Australia.

Thanks to its positive properties, Snow White has become one of the world's most widely cultivated rose varieties over the decades. In 1983 Snow White was elected World Rose . However, since there are now white varieties with comparable properties that are less susceptible to diseases such as roses mildew and blackspot are, she was the predicate ADR rose again in 2004 disallowed.

Thanks to her positive qualities, Snow White also became an important parent for the English roses and roses bred by David Austin . a. for 1983: 'Graham Thomas' and 'Perdita', 1984 'Belle Story' , 'Dove' and 'Heritage' , 1985 'Emanuel', 1986 'Claire Rose', 'English Garden' and 'Swan'. In addition, the rose variety was also used to grow floribunda roses , such as the white 'Kristall' .
