Masako Togawa

Masako Togawa ( Japanese 戸 川 昌 子 , Togawa Masako ; born March 23, 1931 in Tokyo Prefecture ; † April 26, 2016 ) was a Japanese writer , singer , actress and nightclub owner .

life and work

Masako Togawa worked as a night club singer before she started writing detective novels . At the age of 24, she won the prestigious Edogawa Rampo Prize in a crime writing competition . Her psychological detective novels are bestsellers, have won multiple awards and have been translated into other languages. Masako Togawa ran a nightclub in Tokyo, where she herself appeared as a singer. In Japan she was a well-known public figure who was famous as a writer not only for her crime novels, but also for essays and socially critical contributions. She has also released music CDs and has appeared as an actress in several films, including in the film adaptation of her novel Ryojin Nikki (1964).
