Georg Christian Crollius

Georg Christian Crollius (born July 21, 1728 in Zweibrücken ; † March 23, 1790 ibid) was a German historian and librarian .

Life

The son of the Zweibrücker high school rector Johann Philipp Crollius and Margaretha Gabriela Joannis studied in Halle and Göttingen and, like his father, who he followed in 1767 in the management of the Zweibrücker Herzog-Wolfgang-Gymnasium , entered the school service of the Principality of Pfalz-Zweibrücken . Duke Christian IV appointed him head of the library, today's Bibliotheca Bipontina , and court historiographer. Like his father, he researched the history of the Palatinate and the Rhineland Palatinate. As a member of the Electoral Palatinate Academy of Sciences in Mannheim (since 1765), he wrote several essays that were printed in their series. The Origines Bipontinae (1761–1769) may be mentioned as his main work . He also worked on the editions of Greek and Latin classics, the Editiones Bipontinae, published by the Societas Bipontina since 1779 . From 1759 he was a foreign member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
